Its always walking season
It’s always walking season!
While gardeners use the winter to peruse seed catalogs, golfers practice putting on the carpet, and outdoorsmen attend trade shows, Volkssporters keep right on walking. The clothing changes and sometimes we walk a little closer to home. But we do not stop.
In fact, January brings new ways to invigorate your schedule. Here are some ideas to keep you moving.
1. The Winter Walking Challenge: Keep track of your Volkssport events any of the 4 states of the Northwest Region (Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington) from January 1-March 31 and turn in by April 10 to be eligible for prizes. Three prizes will be given by drawing and three for the walkers with the greatest number of events.
For more information and the entry forms check out http://www.esva.online/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/2019-Winter-Walk-Contest-Challenge-29-Oct-18.pdf
2. A new Washington State challenge begins January 1. The goal of Washington State Challenges is to encourage participation in events in new areas in Washington State in fun and interesting ways. This year the challenge is Historic Train Depots. Our club has five walks that qualify so you don’t have to travel far to get started.
For more information or to order challenge books see http://www.esva.online/test-challenge-book-purchase/
3. It’s not too late to start the 39 Counties or Distilleries Wineries Breweries challenges http://www.esva.online/challenges/
4. Want something more low-key. The Meetup Group is a great way to find walks in interesting places with a friendly group of walkers. It is also a good introduction to Volkssport and getting started in the sport. Check out https://www.meetup.com/walkers-574/ for upcoming walks.
Whatever your interest, there are plenty of opportunities for Volkssport in the winter.
Hope to see you on the trail.
